FAQ’s

What size is your laser bed?

The laser bed is 32” x 18”.  The effective cutting area is 31-1/2” x 17-1/2”.

How much do you charge?

I quote each project based on a number of factors including material type and thickness, file complexity, file legibility, etc.  I’ve found that it’s best if you send me a sample file and I quote directly from your file.

How fast are your turnaround times?

Generally pretty fast. I will cut your files either on the day I receive them or the next day and ship immediately.  I work evenings and most weekends at no extra charge.  If you are in the Philadelphia area, we can make arrangements for you to pick up parts if you need them very quickly.

How thick of material can you cut?

The thickest acrylic, for example, that I cut is ¼”.  Basswood @ ¼”.  Chipboard @ 1/8”.  This isn’t an exhaustive list, but it’s the general range.

Can you cut metal?

No.  My machine will not cut metal.  I can refer you to laser cutters that do metal, but for now that’s the best I can do.

What else can’t you cut?

Rubber, polyvinylchloride (PVC), casting resins, soft plastics like styrene and polypropylene, polycarbonate and foam core.

Can you do engraving?

Yes, I can raster engrave wood, acrylic, sign laminates, Rowmark materials and the like.  Let me know what you’re thinking about.

Any tips on how to set up files?

Yes, check the “How-To” page.

Can I hire Fine Line Laser to build a model?

No.  I only supply quality model parts.  I can refer you to professional model makers, though.

What materials do you stock?

I stock clear acrylic is sizes ranging from 1/32” to ¼” thickness.  I also stock 1/8” Baltic birch plywood and 1/8” MDF.  Everything else is customer supplied.

Can you send a sample?

Yes.  Email me your mailing address and I’ll get a sample out to you.

Can we try something new and different?

Sure.  Send me an email, let’s see what you have in mind and we’ll give it a try.  We can do a sample cut, no charge, and then take it from there.

What’s the best way to get in touch?

I’m a moving target, so the phone is not so good.  I check email a lot, though, so shoot me an email.
